A printhead element failure (dot dropout) occurs when micro thermal resistors on the print assembly break or fail to receive electrical current, leading to visible vertical blank gaps across the printed receipts.

1. Precision Isopropyl Alcohol Cleaning
In many cases, organic residue or paper coating buildup insulates the thermal element from the paper, simulating a physical failure.- Turn off the printer power and unplug the unit.
- Open the main top cover and let the printhead cool down for 5 minutes.
- Take a clean cotton swab dipped in 99% isopropyl alcohol (do not use rubbing alcohol with water content).
- Gently wipe the dark thin line of the thermal elements in a single direction.
- Allow to dry for 60 seconds before testing.
2. Execute Epson Dot Dropout Check
The TM-T88VI has built-in electronic health checks for its thermal elements:- Launch the Epson TM-T88VI Utility.
- Go to Maintenance -> Print Head Dot Troubleshooting.
- Run the diagnostic cycle to let the hardware firmware test electrical impedance on the resistors. The utility will advise if a full hardware replacement is necessary.
